The editor of the Open Document Format (ODF) standard has written a letter that strongly supports recognizing Microsoft's Open Office XML (OOXML) file format as a standard, arguing that if it fails, ODF will suffer.
ODF editor: ODF loses if OOXML does
Posted by: msetzerii on March 26, 2008 10:17 PMFrom all I've read, the OOXML isn't a fully open standard, and has some things that are still undocumented.
If MS want to make it a real standard, then it should be fully documented and released like the ODF format.
There needs to be an equal playing field. Right now, it is reversed, there are many organizations that require Microsoft Formats only.
If MS is allowed to get a standard without doing these things, why should they change the methods.
